ABOUT KFF（軽井沢フォトフェスト）について

写真を愛し、軽井沢を愛する二人、日本人の母とカナダ人の父を持つ写真家、野辺地ジョージと弁理士としてのキャリアを持ち、軽井沢の自然とアートを愛する気風に魅了された遠山勉が出会い、その二人の周りに集まったボランティアたちの熱意と献身によって2022年、軽井沢フォトフェストは誕生しました。
活動の中心には、軽井沢周辺の写真を撮ることを条件とする写真公募を据え、主に北米を拠点とするサム・エイベルをはじめ、世界的な評価を得る写真家を招き、ワークショップやアーティストトーク、街歩きイベントなどを開催してきました。
とりわけKFFの公募が特徴とするのは、グランプリ作品や優秀作品を多くの方々にのびのびとご覧いただける展示スタイルです。町内の複数の公園や神社、森などにUVインクで大きなフォーマットにプリントしたターポリンを設置し、広々とした風景の中に“もうひとつの風景”を重ね合わせ、軽井沢の持つ魅力を味わっていただいて来ました。

ABOUT KFF (Karuizawa Foto Fest)
Karuizawa Foto Fest was born in 2022 through the passion and dedication of volunteers gathered around two persons who love photography and Karuizawa: photographer George NOBECHI, born to a Japanese mother and Canadian father, and Tsutomu TOYAMA, a former patent attorney enchanted by Karuizawa's natural beauty and aesthetic spirit.
At the core of its activities is a photo award open to anyone who photographs in and around Karuizawa. KFF has invited internationally acclaimed photographers, including Sam Abell, to host workshops, artist talks, and events around town.
A distinctive feature of KFF's open call is its exhibition style, allowing many people to freely view the award winners and outstanding works. Large-format canvases printed with UV ink are installed in multiple parks, shrines, and forests throughout the town. This overlays “another landscape” onto the expansive scenery, inviting visitors to experience Karuizawa's unique charm.

KFF 2026-2029と“軽井沢レガシー”について
2026年、KFFはその活動を“写真を撮る”に、“写真を楽しむ”さまざまなプログラムを加え、KFFへと進化することになりました。第二段階に進むにあたり、活動の精神と目標とするテーマとして『軽井沢レガシー』を掲げ、従来の写真公募をKFFAwardと改名し、KFFオフィシャル企画展展、トークイベント、ギャラリートレインなど、軽井沢の多様な施設を舞台とし、ワクワクする国際的なフォトフェストへの道を歩んでまいります。
軽井沢レガシーとは
KARUIZAWA LEGACY 「Legacy (レガシー)」とは、 “次の世代に受け継がれていくべきもの”、 単に伝統や遺産などの古いものを指すのはなく、 “目に見えない価値”を炙り出し、 新たな価値観として磨き上げること。
平安時代は東山道、江戸時代には中山道と北国街道との分岐点として栄えた宿場町、 軽井沢。旅籠「亀屋」（その後の「万平ホテル」）のもてなしと軽井沢の自然が生み出す 光と風に魅せられたひとりのカナダ人英国聖教会の宣教師、アレキサンダー・クロフト・ショーによる別荘第一号「軽井沢バンガロー」が建てられたのは、1888年でした。 以来、軽井沢は世界水準のおもてなしと圧倒的な自然の豊かさで 国内外の人々を魅了してきました。
KFFはこの「KARUIZAWA Legacy(軽井沢の心)」を緻密に反映させたプログラムで皆様をお迎えします。
KARUIZAWA LEGACY refers not merely to old traditions or heritage, but to bringing forth “values not visible to the human eye” and polishing them into new sensibilities.
Karuizawa is a post town that flourished as a junction of the Tōsandō in the Heian period and the Nakasendō and Hokkoku Kaidō in the Edo period. In 1888, Alexander Croft Shaw, a Canadian missionary of the Anglican Church captivated by the hospitality of the inn “Kameya” (later “Manpei Hotel”) and the light and wind born of Karuizawa's nature, built the first villa, “Karuizawa Bungalow.” Since then, Karuizawa has enchanted people from around the world with its world-class hospitality and overwhelming natural richness.
KFF aims to share “what truly matters” in navigating turbulent times with a wider international audience. Its main program is a photography contest reflecting this “KARUIZAWA Legacy,” complemented by high-quality photo exhibitions, diverse collaborative projects, and events.
KFF welcomes you with a program that meticulously reflects this “KARUIZAWA Legacy (the spirit of Karuizawa).”

｜活動目的｜
この団体は、軽井沢町民のみならず、広く一般市民を対象とし、「軽井沢レガシー」
を掲げ、 写真を基軸としたアート・コミュニケーションを生み出す展覧会やワークショップ、 教育プログラムの立案と実施、印刷物やインターネットなどのメディアを活用した ソーシャルコミュニケーションの展開を通して、軽井沢町を起点とし、写真とアートを通じ、 SDGsの精神、並びに「人権尊重の町」を目指す『軽井沢町憲章』を遵守し、新しい社会づくりに 寄与することを目的とする。

｜Purpose｜
This organization not only reaches out to Karuizawa residents but also the broader public. Under the theme of “Karuizawa Legacy,” it creates art communication centered on photography through exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs. It also aims to develop social communication utilizing media such as printed materials and the internet. Originating in Karuizawa Town, it seeks to contribute to a new society by adhering to the spirit of SDGs and the ‘Karuizawa Town Charter,’ which aims to be a ‘Town Respecting Human Rights,’ through photography and art.
