国際的に活躍される偉大な写真家夫婦をKFF に迎えて、特別なワークショップを開催します。
少人数のクラスで、井津建郎・由美子の指導を同時に受けられる貴重なチャンスです。これも軽井沢フォトフェストならではの機会です。
井津建郎氏は、アメリカのアート界で最も著名な賞、グッゲンハイム賞の受賞者でもあります。彼のプラチナプリントは、多くの専門家に世界最高作品と絶賛され、国内外の最も重要なギャラリーや美術館で収蔵されています。「聖地」や「無常」をテーマにした井津先生のキャリアは実に輝かしいものであります。
奥様の由美子様も美しいアート写真の作家で、著名なギャラリーに所属されております。また、ニューヨーク州のウッドストックにあるセンター・フォー・フォトグラフィーの奨学金の授賞者でもあります。これもまたまた素晴らしいキャリアの実績です。
お二人は一昨年、30年以上住んでいたニューヨークを離れ、帰国されました。そして、カンボジアでのチャリティワークなどの多忙スケジュールの中、今回はKFFの初開催のために来軽していただくことになりました。この貴重なワークショップのチャンスを決して逃さないでください！
Overview:
KFF is pleased to welcome two great international photographers to KFF for a special workshop.
This is a rare opportunity to be in a small class and receive instruction from Kenro and Yumiko Izu at the same time. This is another unique opportunity only available at Karuizawa Foto Fest.
Kenro Izu is the recipient of the Guggenheim Prize, the most prestigious award in the American art world. His platinum prints are acclaimed by many experts as the world's finest photographic prints and are in the collections of some of the most important galleries and museums in Japan and abroad. Mr. Izu's career is truly illustrious, with themes such as "sacred places" and "impermanence.”
His wife, Yumiko, is also a maker of beautiful fine art photography and is represented by several important galleries. She is also the recipient of a scholarship from the prestigious Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York. This is another great career achievement.
The year before last, the two left New York State, where they had lived for over 30 years, and returned home to Japan. And now, in the midst of their busy schedules, including charity work in Cambodia, they have decided to come to participate in KFF's inaugural year. Don't miss this rare workshop opportunity!

9:00~10:00 自己紹介、参加者自己紹介（それぞれの写真経歴とこのWSで何を求めるか）パワーポイントを使って写真についてお話しします。
10:00~11:00 参加者ポートフォリオ・レビュー（最大２０点、できたらプリント持参、サイズはお任せします、デジタルの場合は作品はスマートフォンで表示するのではなく（小さすぎるため）、ノートパソコンもしくはタブレットを用意ください）
12:00~14:00 ランチをとりながら8x10カメラを使ってホテル敷地内でのデモンストレーション
14:00~15:00 ポートフォリオレビュー続き、作品を作るプロセスについて：テーマの設定、ストーリーの構成など
15:00~16:00 作品の発表についてのプロセス：ギャラリーとの関係性
16:00~17:00 写真集の制作についての話
17:00 閉会

Schedule:
9:00~10:00 Introductions: instructors and participants (their respective photographic backgrounds and what they are looking for in this WS). We will talk about photography using a PowerPoint presentation.
10:00~11:00 Participant portfolio review (maximum 20 works, bring prints if you can, size is up to you, if digital, please prepare laptop or tablet instead of viewing works on your smart phone (because they are too small))
12:00~14:00 Demonstration on the hotel grounds with 8x10 camera over lunch
14:00~15:00 Portfolio review continued, discussing the process of creating a body of work: setting a theme, structuring a story, etc.
15:00~16:00 Process about presenting the work: relationships with galleries
16:00~17:00 Talk about making a photo book
17:00 Closing remakrs

井津建郎 プロフィール
1949年に大阪に生まれる。
日本大学芸術学部に在学中に21歳で渡米、以来2021年までニューヨークに在住、活動を続ける。現在は金沢在住にて作品制作と発表。
1974年ニューヨークでKenro Izu Studioを開設、コマーシャル写真の仕事をしながら作品制作を開始、ライフワークとなった『聖地』シリーズは1979年から始まった。
聖地の濃密な空気感を捉えるために密着プラチナ・プリント技法を使用し、そのために14x20インチのカメラ・ネガを得るカメラを特注、1985年から2016年まで『聖地』を制作した。
他のシリーズとして、『永遠の光』にてインドのヒンドゥー教徒の誕生から死に至るドキュメンタリーのシリーズ制作。2013年〜2016年
『レイクイエム』イタリア・ポンペイにおいて1900年以上前に火山の噴火で発掘された人々を悼む作品。2015年から2017年。
『抚州：忘れられた大地』ダムによる水没と過疎で消えゆく中国の歴史ある地域を取材した作品。2017年から2019年。
『もののあはれ』の一部としての『能』作品を2018年から日本を舞台にして始まる。現在も進行中。
『Sacred Places』（2001年）をはじめとして『Eternal Light』(2016)『無常：50年の旅』（2022）まで20冊の写真集を刊行。
作品はMetropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Washington D.C.), 清里フォトアートミュージアムなど数多くの美術館に収蔵されている。
アメリカ連邦芸術基金、ニューヨーク芸術基金、グッゲンハイム基金などを受賞。
Kenro Izu Profile
Born in Osaka in 1949.
Moved to the U.S. at the age of 21 while a student at Nihon University College of Art, and lived and worked in New York since then until 2021. Currently resides in Kanazawa, where he produces and exhibits his works.
In 1974, he opened Kenro Izu Studio in New York and began creating works while working in commercial photography.
To capture the dense atmosphere of holy lands, he used a close contact platinum printing technique, and for this purpose, he specially ordered a camera that produces 14x20" camera negatives, and produced "Sacred Places" from 1985 to 2016.
He also made another series of documentary photographs of Indian Hindus from birth to death in "Eternal Light," 2013-2016.
In "Requiem," he mourned those excavated in Pompeii, Italy, who were buried by a volcanic eruption more than 1,900 years ago. 2015-2017.
Xinzhou: The Forgotten Land, a series about a historic region of China that is disappearing due to submergence and overpopulation caused by dams, 2017-2019.
"Noh" masks as part of "Mono no aware" began in 2018, set in Japan. Still in progress.
He has published 20 books of photography, including Sacred Places (2001), Eternal Light (2016), and Mujyo: A 50-Year Journey (2022).
His work is in the collections of numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Washington, D.C.), and the Kiyosato Museum of Photo Art.
He has received awards from the Federal National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.

井津由美子 プロフィール
1998年アメリカ、カリフォルニア州のブルックス大学写真学科を卒業。2003年より大型カメラでプラチナ・パラディウムプリント技法による『Secret Garden』を制作開始。2016年に『Secret Garden』と『Faraway』を収録した写真集『Resonance』を出版。2017年から微細な鳥の巣と羽根の抽象的イメージで成り立つ『Icarus』を東京、台北、バンコク、サンタフェ、パリのギャラリーで発表。2020年に東京のBOOKMARCにて、故ソール・ライターのアトリエの写真集『Saul Leiter: In Stillness』の出版を記念して写真展を開催。2022年に最新作『うつろい』写真展を京都のお寺にて開催。2007年にニューヨーク州ウッドストックのセンター・フォー・フォトグラフィー奨学金受賞し、数多くの展覧会を開催。
Yumiko Izu Profile
Yumiko Izu graduated from Brooks College of Photography in California, U.S.A., in 1998, and began working on "Secret Garden" with a large format camera using platinum palladium printing technique in 2003. In 2017, she began showing "Icarus," a collection of abstract images of minute bird nests and feathers, at galleries in Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Santa Fe, and Paris.
In 2020, she published a book of photographs of the late Saul Leiter's studio, "Saul Leiter: In Stillness," at BOOKMARC in Tokyo. In 2022, her latest exhibition, Utsuroi, was held at a temple in Kyoto, Japan. In 2007, she was awarded a scholarship at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, and held numerous exhibitions.
