Join four masters of photography in an intimate, VIP dinner held at the Hotel Otowa-no-mori in Karuizawa. This small group dinner surrounds guests of KFF Jane Evelyn Atwood, Yumiko Izu, Kenro Izu, and Sam Abell in a fundraising dinner in support of Karuizawa Foto Fest. Proceeds from the dinner will go to running programs for KFF.

The dinner features a full-course meal, wine, sparkling wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, etc. provided by the fine dining services of Hotel Otowanomori.

Guests will be able to mingle with and converse with these masters and spend a special evening with them and learning about their lives and craft.

サム・エイベル　ワークショップ　しなの鉄道撮影旅行：「PHOTO TRAIN」

Sam Abell Workshop: “Photo Train”: A Journey on the Shinano Railroad

本ワークショップについて：

サム・エイベルは世界で最も尊敬される写真の講師の一人です。33年間ナショナルジオグラフィック誌の写真家として活躍しただけではなく、他にも輝かしい経歴の持ち主です。彼は同誌の歴史上最も偉大な50枚の写真に二枚選出された唯一の写真家でもあります。また「Stay this Moment」と題した象徴的な個展をニューヨーク市の国際写真センター(ICP)にて1990年に開催しました。

サムは日本の熱狂的なファンです。1980年に山口県の萩へ仕事で初めて訪れて以来、何度も日本を旅しています。また彼は鉄道の旅のファンでもあります。彼の最初の革新的な写真が彼が15歳の時に駅で父親を撮ったものであることがそれを象徴しています。2019年にはサムはアーサー・マイヤーソン(KFFでトークイベントを開催)と野辺地ジョージといった写真家達と共に北海道の稚内から萩まで鉄道で撮影旅行を行いました。

この特別なワークショップではサムと野辺地ジョージが最大12名の国内外の参加者を率いて、しなの鉄道での軽井沢駅から長野駅への往復の道のりで撮影旅行を行います。

長野市の善光寺、枝垂れ桜で有名な小諸市の小諸城址懐古園、信濃追分駅などフォトジェニックな撮影ポイントが満載です。

道中では、現場での指摘や指導などが行われます。

この旅で撮影された写真は、サムとNobechi Creativeによる共同キュレーションで2023年夏に信濃追分駅の百周年を記念して展示させていただく予定です。

その他：

• Nobechi Creativeのバイリンガルサポートチームが通訳・翻訳を担当します。

• 参加費にはしなの鉄道の一日乗車券と懐古園の入場料が含まれています。

Description:

Sam Abell is one of the world’s most sought-after photography instructors.  He was a National Geographic photographer for thirty-three years and had a storied career. He was the only photographer who had two photographs named to the fifty greatest photographs in the history of the magazine. He also had an iconic exhibition in 1990 at the International Center of Photography in New York entitled “Stay this Moment”.

Sam is a great fan of Japan, having first visited on assignment in 1980 in Hagi, and having repeated many trips over the years. He is also a fan of travel by train, with his first iconic photograph being one of his father at a train station taken when he was just 15 years old, and having traveled by rail from Wakkanai, Hokkaido to Hagi with fellow photographers Arthur Meyerson (also a KFF guest) and George Nobechi in 2019.

For this special workshop event, Sam and George will lead a maximum of 12 international participants on the Shinano Railway, departing Karuizawa and heading to Nagano City via rail, photographing along the way and back. 

Highlights will include Zenko-ji in Nagano City, Kaiko-en Garden in Komoro City, known for its weeping cherry blossoms, and Shinano-Oiwake Station.

Instruction will be given along the way with in-the-field tips and training.

The photographs made on this journey will later be curated by Sam and Nobechi Creative to be displayed in the 100th anniversary celebration of Shinano-Oiwake Station in summer of 2023.

Notes:

Nobechi Creative’s Bilingual Support Team will provide translation services.

The cost of the tuition includes a one-day rail pass and admission to Kaiko-En Garden.

It does not include a ¥500 express train reserved seat fee (please bring ¥500 with you on the day of the event)

サム・エイベル（1945年オハイオ州シルバニア生まれ）は日常を撮影する写真家の中でも「マスター」と他の写真家から絶賛される偉大な存在です。

彼はナショナルジオグラフィックに写真が頻繁に掲載されることで知られているアメリカの写真家です。また、KFFの総監督、写真家　野辺地ジョージの師匠でもあります。

エイベルが写真を好きになったのは、写真クラブを主宰する地理教師であった父親の影響からです。著書『The Photographic Life』の中で、父親と出かけた先で撮った写真が、その後フォトコンテストで小さな賞を受賞したことに触れています。この写真が、その後の彼の人生の方向性に大きな影響を与えたと述べています。高校のイヤーブックと新聞ではカメラマンと共同編集者を務めました。

レキシントンのケンタッキー大学で英語学を専攻、ジャーナリズムを副専攻し、ケンタッキアン年鑑の編集長を務めた後に卒業しました。その後、教師、芸術家、作家としても活躍しています。

エイベルは2009年にトレド大学から名誉文学博士号を授与されています[1]。

サム・エイベルの著書『The Life of a Photograph』は、2000年に『Seeing Gardens』から始まった3冊のうちの1冊です。2002年には『The Photographic Life』に続いています。

彼のトークショウは、アメリカの写真界では最も感動するトークのひとつと絶賛され、野辺地氏含む多くの現役写真家は彼のトークを経験して人生が変わりました。第一回軽井沢フォトフェストのゲストスピーカーシリーズのアンカーは、サム・エイベルです。彼との特別な時間は決して忘れることはないでしょう。

Sam Abell (born in Sylvania, Ohio in 1945) is acclaimed by other photographers as a "master" of the everyday life.

He is an American photographer known for his frequent publication of photographs in National Geographic. He is also the mentor of KFF's general director, photographer George Nobechi.

Abell's love of photography was influenced by his father, a geography teacher who ran a photography club. In his book “The Photographic Life,” Abell mentions that a photograph he took on a trip with his father later won a small prize in a photo contest. He states that this photograph had a profound influence on the direction of his life thereafter.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington with a major in English and a minor in journalism, where he was editor-in-chief of the Kentuckian Yearbook. He is also a teacher, artist, and writer.

Abell received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Toledo in 2009[.

His book, “The Life of a Photograph”, is one of three books that began with “Seeing Gardens” in 2000, followed by “The Photographic Life” in 2002.

His presentations on photography in everyday life have been acclaimed as one of the most moving talks in American photography, and many working photographers, including Nobechi, have had their lives changed after meeting Abell. Anchoring the Guest Speaker Series for the first edition of Karuizawa Foto Fest is Sam Abell. You are sure to never forget your evening spent listening to him speak.

George Nobechi, General Director of KFF, will serve as host and interpreter.

井津建郎氏は、アメリカのアート界で最も著名な賞、グッゲンハイム賞の受賞者でもあります。彼のプラチナプリントは、多くの専門家に世界最高作品と絶賛され、国内外の最も重要なギャラリーや美術館で収蔵されています。「聖地」や「無常」をテーマにした井津先生のキャリアは実に輝かしいものであります。

奥様の由美子様も美しいアート写真の作家で、著名なギャラリーに所属されております。また、ニューヨーク州のウッドストックにあるセンター・フォー・フォトグラフィーの奨学金の授賞者でもあります。これもまたまた素晴らしいキャリアの実績です。

お二人は一昨年、30年以上住んでいたニューヨークを離れ、帰国されました。そして、カンボジアでのチャリティワークなどの多忙スケジュールの中、今回はKFFの初開催のために来軽していただくことになりました。この貴重なワークショップのチャンスを決して逃さないでください！

Overview:

KFF is pleased to welcome two great international photographers to KFF for a special workshop.

This is a rare opportunity to be in a small class and receive instruction from Kenro and Yumiko Izu at the same time. This is another unique opportunity only available at Karuizawa Foto Fest.

Kenro Izu is the recipient of the Guggenheim Prize, the most prestigious award in the American art world. His platinum prints are acclaimed by many experts as the world's finest photographic prints and are in the collections of some of the most important galleries and museums in Japan and abroad. Mr. Izu's career is truly illustrious, with themes such as "sacred places" and "impermanence.”

His wife, Yumiko, is also a maker of beautiful fine art photography and is represented by several important galleries. She is also the recipient of a scholarship from the prestigious Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York. This is another great career achievement.

The year before last, the two left New York State, where they had lived for over 30 years, and returned home to Japan. And now, in the midst of their busy schedules, including charity work in Cambodia, they have decided to come to participate in KFF's inaugural year. Don't miss this rare workshop opportunity!

聖地の濃密な空気感を捉えるために密着プラチナ・プリント技法を使用し、そのために14x20インチのカメラ・ネガを得るカメラを特注、1985年から2016年まで『聖地』を制作した。

他のシリーズとして、『永遠の光』にてインドのヒンドゥー教徒の誕生から死に至るドキュメンタリーのシリーズ制作。2013年〜2016年

Kenro Izu Profile

Born in Osaka in 1949.

Moved to the U.S. at the age of 21 while a student at Nihon University College of Art, and lived and worked in New York since then until 2021. Currently resides in Kanazawa, where he produces and exhibits his works.

In 1974, he opened Kenro Izu Studio in New York and began creating works while working in commercial photography.

To capture the dense atmosphere of holy lands, he used a close contact platinum printing technique, and for this purpose, he specially ordered a camera that produces 14x20" camera negatives, and produced "Sacred Places" from 1985 to 2016.

He also made another series of documentary photographs of Indian Hindus from birth to death in "Eternal Light," 2013-2016.

In "Requiem," he mourned those excavated in Pompeii, Italy, who were buried by a volcanic eruption more than 1,900 years ago. 2015-2017.

Xinzhou: The Forgotten Land, a series about a historic region of China that is disappearing due to submergence and overpopulation caused by dams, 2017-2019.

"Noh" masks as part of "Mono no aware" began in 2018, set in Japan. Still in progress.

He has published 20 books of photography, including Sacred Places (2001), Eternal Light (2016), and Mujyo: A 50-Year Journey (2022).

His work is in the collections of numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Washington, D.C.), and the Kiyosato Museum of Photo Art.

He has received awards from the Federal National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.

Yumiko Izu Profile

Yumiko Izu graduated from Brooks College of Photography in California, U.S.A., in 1998, and began working on "Secret Garden" with a large format camera using platinum palladium printing technique in 2003. In 2017, she began showing "Icarus," a collection of abstract images of minute bird nests and feathers, at galleries in Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Santa Fe, and Paris.

In 2020, she published a book of photographs of the late Saul Leiter's studio, "Saul Leiter: In Stillness," at BOOKMARC in Tokyo. In 2022, her latest exhibition, Utsuroi, was held at a temple in Kyoto, Japan. In 2007, she was awarded a scholarship at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, and held numerous exhibitions.

The second in our series of guest speakers for the Karuizawa Foto Fest Main Event is a duo: two humble and wonderful photographers who happen to be husband and wife. Yumiko Izu and Kenro Izu are great human beings and even greater artists. The photographs they make using film, especially those completed on platinum palladium prints, are breathtakingly beautiful.

Their beautiful prints will be on display at the venue at the time of this talk.

Yumiko Izu Profile

Yumiko Izu graduated from Brooks College of Photography in California, U.S.A., in 1998, and began working on "Secret Garden" with a large format camera using platinum palladium printing technique in 2003. In 2017, she began showing "Icarus," a collection of abstract images of minute bird nests and feathers, at galleries in Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Santa Fe, and Paris.

In 2020, she published a book of photographs of the late Saul Leiter's studio, "Saul Leiter: In Stillness," at BOOKMARC in Tokyo. In 2022, her latest exhibition, Utsuroi, was held at a temple in Kyoto, Japan. In 2007, she was awarded a scholarship at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, and held numerous exhibitions.

Kenro Izu Profile

Born in Osaka in 1949.

Moved to the U.S. at the age of 21 while a student at Nihon University College of Art, and lived and worked in New York since then until 2021. Currently resides in Kanazawa, where he produces and exhibits his works.

In 1974, he opened Kenro Izu Studio in New York and began creating works while working in commercial photography.

To capture the dense atmosphere of holy lands, he used a close contact platinum printing technique, and for this purpose, he specially ordered a camera that produces 14x20" camera negatives, and produced "Sacred Places" from 1985 to 2016.

He also made another series of documentary photographs of Indian Hindus from birth to death in "Eternal Light," 2013-2016.

In "Requiem," he mourned those excavated in Pompeii, Italy, who were buried by a volcanic eruption more than 1,900 years ago. 2015-2017.

Xinzhou: The Forgotten Land, a series about a historic region of China that is disappearing due to submergence and overpopulation caused by dams, 2017-2019.

"Noh" masks as part of "Mono no aware" began in 2018, set in Japan. Still in progress.

He has published 20 books of photography, including Sacred Places (2001), Eternal Light (2016), and Mujyo: A 50-Year Journey (2022).

His work is in the collections of numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Washington, D.C.), and the Kiyosato Museum of Photo Art.

He has received awards from the Federal National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.

輝かしいキャリアを持つジェーン・エヴリン・アトウッドがはるばるパリから軽井沢まで来ていただきます。彼女のライフワークは、社会の周縁にいる人たちのストーリーを語ることです。

1947年にニューヨークに生まれたアトウッドは、昨年東京銀座のCHANEL NEXUS HALLで日本では初となる個展を開催しました。

学生時代にダイアン・アーバスの展覧会を見て、感銘を受けました。1971年からパリを拠点として、苦難に向き合い、生き抜いていく人々の姿をありのままに写し続けています。

そして、1980年に、デビュー作となったパリのロンバード通りの娼婦たちの写真と、当時撮影を始めたばかりだった盲目の子供のシリーズが評価され、第1回ユージン・スミス賞を受賞した。この賞は、LIFEマガジンやその他の報道機関で長年ドキュメンタリープロジェクトを撮影していた、日本でもお馴染みのユージン・スミス氏の追悼としてできた、著名な賞です。

その後もアトウッドは、エイズ患者の密着取材や1女囚たちの撮影、 ハイチの地雷犠牲者の調査など、被写体を深く理解するために、何ヶ月も、時には何年もの間、対象と時間をともにする、極めて私的で情熱的なアプローチでそれぞれのプロジェクトに没頭しました。日本でも、阪神淡路大震災を取材した経歴もあります。

Jane Evelyn Atwood, who has had an illustrious career, will come all the way from Paris to Karuizawa to speak at the inaugural KFF. Her life's work is to tell the stories of people on the margins of society.

Born in New York in 1947, she was inspired by an exhibition of Diane Arbus when she was a student, and since 1971, based in Paris, she has continued to photograph people as they are, facing and surviving hardship.

In 1980, she was awarded the first W. Eugene Smith Prize for her debut series of photographs of prostitutes on the Rue Lombard in Paris and a series of blind children, which she had just begun photographing at the time. This prominent award was created in memory of W. Eugene Smith, a well-known photographer who had produced documentary projects for LIFE Magazine and other news organizations for many years. In subsequent years, Atwood immersed herself in each project with a highly personal and passionate approach, spending months, sometimes years, with her subjects in order to gain a deeper understanding of them, whether it was a close-up look at AIDS patients in the early days, photographing female prisoners, or investigating earthquake victims in Haiti. She also worked in Japan, where she covered the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

Atwood held her first solo exhibition in Japan at CHANEL NEXUS HALL in Ginza, Tokyo last year.

The leadoff person for the KFF Guest Speaker Series is Jane Evelyn Atwood, the owner of a small body with a big heart who has reached the world's highest peak of documentary photography. Many who experience her talk are sure to leave impressed and inspired. Join us for a special evening at the historic UNION CHURCH in Karuizawa.

Karuizawa Foto Fest Opening Ceremony

昨年 6 月より準備を進めてまいりました軽井沢フォトフェストがいよいよ 4 月 1 日（土）～5 月 14 日（日）まで軽井沢の 4 カ所の公園（矢ケ崎公園、諏訪ノ森公園、湯川ふるさと公園 上流部、追分公園）にて開催となります。

4 月 1 日（土）11 時より開会式を開催いたします。皆様と共に 250 作品を鑑賞し、第 1 回軽井沢フォトフェストの開催を祝う会にしたいと思います。展示作品から選ばれるグランプリなど賞の発表もございますので、ぜひご参加いただけますと幸いです。

場所：矢ケ崎公園（軽井沢町軽井沢東 28-1）

矢ケ崎公園ではキッチンカーが出店いたします。キッチンカーや近くの飲食店などで食べ物や飲み物をお買い求めいただき鑑賞をお楽しみください。

（２）会場巡回ツアー

12 時： 追分公園へ移動

13 時： 湯川ふるさと公園 上流部へ移動

13 時 45 分：  諏訪ノ森公園へ移動その後、自由解散

The first Karuizawa Foto Fest will finally take place from Saturday, April 1 to Sunday, May 14, across four Karuizawa parks (Yagasaki Park, Suwanomori Park, Upstream Area of Yukawa Furusato Park, and Oiwake Park).

A ceremony to mark the opening of the Karuizawa Foto Fest exhibition will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 11:00. It would be a pleasure to have you join us as we announce the Grand Prix and other prizes to be selected from 250 exhibited works.

Organizers’ greetings, an announcement of award winners, commentary by KFF director George Nobechi, on the works, exhibition layout and methods, and appearance of surprise guests.

Food trucks will be available in Yagasaki Park. Please purchase food and beverages from the food trucks and nearby restaurants and enjoy the exhibition.

(2) Tour of the Exhibition Venues

12:00 p.m.: Move to Oiwake Park

1:00 p.m.: Move to the Upstream portion of Yukawa Furusato Park (near Karuizawa Town Hall)

1:45 p.m.: Move to Suwanomori Park, then free to leave.

For transportation, please use your own car or take the bus. A microbus is available for up to 15 people (first come, first served) for those who cannot travel by car. This service costs 2,000 yen per person, but you must let us know ahead of time if you wish to use it. The microbus will return from Suwanomori Park to Yagasaki Park at 14:30.

KFF PHOTO TALK NO. 3: 「写真は可能か？」 -- 日米写真文化の比較を試みる - シンヤB

2月23日（木・祭日）16時～18時

葛飾北斎も、節穴からの光で富士の像が障子に投影される様を描いていた。

海の向こうのフランスでは、写真発明家ニエプスが像の定着に成功し、その技術をヘリオグラフ (太陽で描く) と命名し、後に研究を引き継いだダゲールが自身の名前を付けてダゲレオタイプとして世に広めることになる。

Photography という言葉の起源も諸説あるが、イギリスの写真発明家タルボットの共同研究者であった天文学者ハーシェルがギリシャ語の「光」と「描く」を繋いで作ったとされる。日本では写真という言葉がダゲレオタイプ以前から使われていたことが分かっている。写生技術が生き生きとして素晴らしい画家の作品を漢詩では写真と呼んでいたことから、カメラ・オブスクラを「写真鏡」と訳したことが起源ではないかとされている。日本で最初に写真を撮影したのがアメリカ人だったことはあまり知られていない。黒船には写真家も乗っていたのだ。

「写真は可能か？」講演は2部構成でお送りします。第一部では、日米写真文化の比較を作品を通して考察します、第二部は、写真の起源を知り、「写真」と「Photography」という日本語と英語の「言葉」を足がかりに、「写真 = 真実を写す」と「Photography = 光で描く」は「可能か？」を検証していきます。

下北沢 (東京) 生まれ。高校時代からアメリカで暮らし始め、30歳でアメリカの大学院を卒業。米国テンプル大学のジャパンキャンパスにアート学科を立ち上げ、現在は、三軒茶屋にある日米グローバルキャンパスにて、写真の理論と実践の授業を担当中。

個人展覧会として「Things I see, do away (1999, Gallery Art Space)」「Afterwords, Me (2013, 現代ハイツ)」「作例 -- よくある質問と消えていく写真の言葉 (2022, Place M)」などがあり、近年は、審査員と展覧会のキュレーションを担当した RICOH THETA 公式写真展｢Beauty is all around 2021 (リコーイメージングスクエア)｣が東京と大阪を巡回した。

Adobeフォトことはじめオンライン講座の講師を2020年から務める。

KFF PHOTO TALK NO. 3: “Is ‘shashin’ possible?” -- a comparative look at the culture of photography in Japan and the US - Shinya B

Katsushika Hokusai once depicted the image of Fuji projected on a shoji (paper sliding door) by light from a knot hole.

In France, the photographic inventor Niepce succeeded in fixing the image and named his technique “heliography” (drawing by the sun), which was later popularized as the daguerreotype by Daguerre, who took over the research and named it after himself.

The origin of the word "Photography" is also the subject of various theories, but it is said to have been coined by the astronomer Herschel, a collaborator of the British photographic inventor Talbot, by combining the Greek words for "light" and "drawing." It is known that the word "shashin [photography]" was used in Japan even before the daguerreotype. It is believed to have originated from the translation of camera obscura as "shashin kagami [photographic mirror]," as the works of painters whose sketching techniques were vivid and brilliant were called "shashin" in Chinese poetry. It is not widely known that the first photographers in Japan were Americans. The Black Ships also had photographers on board.

The talk "Is 'Shashin' Possible?" will be presented in two parts. In the first part, a comparison of Japanese and U.S. photographic culture will be discussed through the works. As we move into the second part, we will learn about the origins of photography. Also, using the Japanese word "shashin" and the English word "photography" as stepping-stones, we will examine whether "shashin = reflecting the truce" and "photography = drawing by lights" are “possible.”

Photographer, artist, dramaturge. 

Born in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. He received a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Tyler School of Art at the age of 30. He initiated an art major program at Temple University, Japan Campus in 2003. He is currently a professor at the Japan-US Global Campus in Sangenjaya, where he teaches photographic practices and theories. He has produced many solo photography shows including "Things I see, do away (1999, Gallery Art Space)", "Afterwords, Me (2013, Gendai Heights)", and "Sakurei -- Commonly Asked Questions and the Words Disappearing from Photography (2022, Place M)". 

He is one of the jurors for the RICOH THETA official photo contest. He curated the official THETA photo exhibition called "Beauty is all around 2021 (Ricoh Imaging Square Tokyo & Osaka)". 

Since 2020, he is the photo lecturer for Adobe Inc. in Japan.

Karuizawa Foto Festでは、将来フォトガイド制度を設立する計画があります。そこで、フォトガイドのお仕事に興味のある方に、軽井沢の魅力を伝えるガイド研修にモニターとしてご参加いただき、ガイド制度についてご意見をいただければ幸いです。

もちろん、kffでの展示作品への応募写真も撮影できます。

今回は、軽井沢の冬の魅力を皆さんと一緒に見つけ共有、そして世界に広めていくための野外研修です！軽井沢に長く住んでいても、いなくても、軽井沢の魅力は無尽蔵、知らない魅力に溢れています。

江戸時代の中山道の痕跡、凍る湯川、美しい冬の森、そして知られざる絶景ポイントを巡り、最後は野鳥やリスの来るカフェで温まりながら、フォトガイドの活動について意見交換させていただければ幸いです。

Explore the Yukawa River in Winter and Discover Karuizawa's Hidden Charms!

Karuizawa Foto Fest plans to establish a photo guide system in the future. Those interested in becoming photo guides are invited to participate in this seminar as monitors and to share their opinions.

You are welcome to take photos for submission to the exhibitions at kff, of course. Entries will be accepted until the end of January.

This outdoor seminar will help us uncover and share Karuizawa's winter charms. The hidden gems of Karuizawa await everyone, whether you have lived here for a long time or not.

We will visit the remnants of the Nakasendo Trail from the Edo period, the frozen Yukawa River, the picturesque winter forests, and unknown scenic spots before cozying up at a warm café where wild birds and squirrels gather, and exchange opinions about photo guide activities.

1969年東京生まれ。写真家で法学部教授。慶應義塾大学経済学部卒、法学部卒、大学院修士課程を修了し、2000年に同博士課程を単位取得退学して成蹊大学法学部に着任。在学中よりブライダル撮影を中心に写真家として活動。ポートレイトから料理、風景まで、あらゆる「きらきら」を写す。Apple社の元CEO故スティーブ・ジョブズ氏を撮影した写真は日米韓国でたびたび雑誌の表紙、記事、書籍に掲載されている。Web媒体や雑誌に寄稿する他、写真、カメラ、IT、Mac/iPhone/iPad、そして著作権などに関する各種ワークショップの講師やコンテストの審査員をつとめる。例年3月の「CP+」で行うトークショウはYouTubeに公開されている。DVD『写真をカクシンしよう!!』好評発売中。成蹊大学法学部教授、政策研究大学院/多摩美術大学非常勤講師。

Photographer; Professor, Faculty of Law, Seikei University; Part-time lecturer, Tama Art University and National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies

Born in Tokyo in 1969. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law, and Graduate School of Keio University, he has been active since 1995 in a wide range of photographic fields, mainly bridal photography, but also food and portraiture. His photographs of Steve Jobs have appeared in MacPeople magazine, on the cover of MacMadang magazine in Korea, as well as in numerous articles, websites, and books. He has been involved in camera and software development for many years, teaches photography courses and serves as a juror in various competitions. He is a regular speaker on the manufacturers' stage at CP+; videos are on YouTube. He also appears on Ricoh's GR TV.

The sixth KFF Photowalk will take you to a hidden gem event deep in the forest and romantic winter in Karuizawa.

Karuizawa is where Western culture has taken root for more than 100 years. During December, you'll see Christmas trees adorning traditional churches and beautiful and elegant illuminations in historic hotels that will inspire you to snap pictures. The town is lit up with warm lights as early winter dusk approaches.

Until dusk, the town's loop bus will take you to a secret mini-concert in the forest. The experience in this soothing space will surely be unforgettable! (You can take pictures in a warm place.)

Let's go out and capture the romantic twilight of Karuizawa in winter!

第2回のKFFフォトトークはカラー写真の巨匠アーサー・マイヤーソンの「The Journey：写真との人生」です。このイベントはNobechi Creativeの提供で行われます。

アーサー・マイヤーソン氏は、アメリカで最も優れたカラー写真家の一人として知られています。1974年以来、テキサス州出身の彼は世界中を旅しながら、広告、企業、雑誌、そしてファインアート向けの写真で数々の賞を受賞しています。アドウィーク誌の「サウスウェスト・フォトグラファー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」を3度受賞し、コミュニケーション・ワールド誌の企業写真家トップ10に選ばれ、アメリカン・フォト誌のベスト広告写真家30人にも選ばれている。

ニューヨーク・アートディレクターズ・クラブ、ヒューストン・アートディレクターズ・クラブ、ダラス・ソサエティ・オブ・ビジュアル・コミュニケーションズから金賞を、ナイキの広告キャンペーンで権威あるスティーブン・ケリー賞を受賞するなど、数々の賞を受賞している。また、ニコンの「Legends Behind the Lens」リストに選出され、ヒューストン広告連盟から「その創造性と芸術への情熱がヒューストン市を認知させた」個人に与えられる「Only In Houston」賞の第1回受賞者としての栄誉を受けた。2008年には、Houston Decorative Centerが毎年開催しているStars Of Designの写真部門の第一回受賞者に選ばれています。

KFF Photo Talk No. 2: Arthur Meyerson's "The Journey, A Life in Photography" - presented by Nobechi Creative.

Arthur Meyerson is recognized as one of America’s finest color photographers. Since 1974, this native Texan has traveled throughout the world, creating award-winning advertising, corporate and editorial photographs, as well as an extensive body of fine art imagery. A three-time winner of Adweek’s “Southwest Photographer of the Year” award, he is on Communication World’s list of top 10 corporate photographers and was named one of the 30 best advertising photographers by American Photo.

His awards are numerous, including gold medals from the New York Art Directors Club, the Art Directors Club of Houston, the Dallas Society of Visual Communications and the prestigious Stephen Kelly Award for his work on the Nike advertising campaign. He was selected by Nikon to their illustrious Legends Behind the Lens list and was honored by the Houston Advertising Federation as the inaugural recipient of the Only In Houston award for individuals “whose creativity and passion for his art have brought recognition to the city of Houston”. In 2008, the Houston Decorative Center named him as the first recipient of photography in their annual Stars Of Design celebration.

Besides his commercial work, Arthur’s fascination with light, color and the moment continues, and has culminated in an impressive body of personal work that includes his highly acclaimed 2012 book, The Color of Light. His photographs are in the public collections of several major institutions and have been exhibited internationally. He and his work have been profiled in many publications including Communication Arts, Rangefinder, Camera Arts, Graphis, Digital Photo Pro, Zoom (France), Portfolio, Idea (Japan), Novum (Germany), Photo World (China), and Fotodigital (Portugal).

Kumoba Pond is an iconic spot for photographers, of course, but we will take you to some lesser-known locations, including places exclusive to KFF.

浅間山麓で育った蕎麦の昔ながらの収穫風景と、早朝に行われる蕎麦打ちの撮影です。 この季節にしか見られない信州の秋を撮影に出かけましょう！
中山道の宿場、追分の散策もあります。江戸の昔に想いを馳せながら紅葉も楽しめる楽しいフォトウォークです。

The theme of the third KFF Photo Walk is the soba making process of Shinshu, arguably Japan’s most famous soba-making region.

We will photograph the traditional harvesting of soba plants grown at the foot of Mt. Asama and the early morning manual noodle-making process.　Let's go out to photograph the autumn in Shinshu, which can only be seen during this season!

There will also be a walk around Oiwake, an old post town on the Nakasendo Road. This is a fun photo walk where you can enjoy the autumn leaves while reminiscing about the old days of Edo.

2022年8月に軽井沢在住の写真家 野辺地ジョージは、カナダ・バンクーバーからアラスカ・デナリ国立公園まで往復で1万キロを車で走りながらその風景をカメラに収めました。
第一編は壮大なカナディアン・ロッキーの風景です。 神秘的な湖や月光に照らされた世界、ヘラジカや熊とのエピソードを写真と共に語ります。 もちろん、構図の考え方や、チャレンジを克服する技術も惜しみなく共有します。

概要： フォトトークは軽井沢フォトフェスト（kff）に向けて定期的に開催されます。

In August 2022, Karuizawa-based photographer George Nobechi drove 10,000 km from Vancouver, Canada to Denali National Park, Alaska and back, capturing the scenery on camera.　

The first volume features the spectacular Canadian Rockies.　The photographs and stories of mystical lakes, moonlit worlds, and episodes with moose and bears are told.　Of course, Nobechi generously shares his thoughts on composition and techniques for overcoming challenges.

Summary: Photo Talks will be held periodically in preparation for the Karuizawa Photo Fest (kff).
