本ワークショップについて：

サム・エイベルは世界で最も尊敬される写真の講師の一人です。33年間ナショナルジオグラフィック誌の写真家として活躍しただけではなく、他にも輝かしい経歴の持ち主です。彼は同誌の歴史上最も偉大な50枚の写真に二枚選出された唯一の写真家でもあります。また「Stay this Moment」と題した象徴的な個展をニューヨーク市の国際写真センター(ICP)にて1990年に開催しました。

サムは日本の熱狂的なファンです。1980年に山口県の萩へ仕事で初めて訪れて以来、何度も日本を旅しています。また彼は鉄道の旅のファンでもあります。彼の最初の革新的な写真が彼が15歳の時に駅で父親を撮ったものであることがそれを象徴しています。2019年にはサムはアーサー・マイヤーソン(KFFでトークイベントを開催)と野辺地ジョージといった写真家達と共に北海道の稚内から萩まで鉄道で撮影旅行を行いました。

この特別なワークショップではサムと野辺地ジョージが最大12名の国内外の参加者を率いて、しなの鉄道での軽井沢駅から長野駅への往復の道のりで撮影旅行を行います。

長野市の善光寺、枝垂れ桜で有名な小諸市の小諸城址懐古園、信濃追分駅などフォトジェニックな撮影ポイントが満載です。

道中では、現場での指摘や指導などが行われます。

この旅で撮影された写真は、サムとNobechi Creativeによる共同キュレーションで2023年夏に信濃追分駅の百周年を記念して展示させていただく予定です。

その他：

• Nobechi Creativeのバイリンガルサポートチームが通訳・翻訳を担当します。

• 参加費にはしなの鉄道の一日乗車券と懐古園の入場料が含まれています。

• 参加費には特急列車指定席料金500円は含まれていません。(当日500円の現金をご持参ください。)

• 昼食は提供されませんので、途中で軽食をとるか、各自昼食をご購入ください。

スケジュール：

8:00：旧軽井沢 ホテル音羽ノ森に集合

8:15～8:45：オリエンテーション

8:45～9:15：軽井沢駅に移動

9:36：軽井沢リゾート1号発車 (指定席)

10:48：長野駅到着

11:00～11:30：善光寺へ移動

11:30～12:30：善光寺にて写真撮影

12:30～13:00：長野駅へ移動

13:05：小諸行き各駅停車(自由席)発車 (間に合わない場合は13:45発に乗車)

14:12：小諸駅着 (後発の場合は14:52着)

14:20～16:00：小諸城址懐古園で写真撮影

16:20～16:36：各駅停車(自由席)で信濃追分駅へ

16:36～17:00：信濃追分駅にて写真撮影

その後解散後、各々電車、バス、タクシー等の方法で移動。(次の軽井沢駅行きは17:46発です。)

35,000円 + 500円 (35,000円は銀行振り込みでお願いします。詳細はメールにてお送りします。500円は指定席料金ですので当日現金にてご持参ください。)

キャンセル料：

4月7日以降のキャンセルは参加費の5割、4月10日以降は10割のキャンセル料をお支払いいただきます。

Description:

Sam Abell is one of the world’s most sought-after photography instructors.  He was a National Geographic photographer for thirty-three years and had a storied career. He was the only photographer who had two photographs named to the fifty greatest photographs in the history of the magazine. He also had an iconic exhibition in 1990 at the International Center of Photography in New York entitled “Stay this Moment”.

Sam is a great fan of Japan, having first visited on assignment in 1980 in Hagi, and having repeated many trips over the years. He is also a fan of travel by train, with his first iconic photograph being one of his father at a train station taken when he was just 15 years old, and having traveled by rail from Wakkanai, Hokkaido to Hagi with fellow photographers Arthur Meyerson (also a KFF guest) and George Nobechi in 2019.

For this special workshop event, Sam and George will lead a maximum of 12 international participants on the Shinano Railway, departing Karuizawa and heading to Nagano City via rail, photographing along the way and back. 

Highlights will include Zenko-ji in Nagano City, Kaiko-en Garden in Komoro City, known for its weeping cherry blossoms, and Shinano-Oiwake Station.

Instruction will be given along the way with in-the-field tips and training.

The photographs made on this journey will later be curated by Sam and Nobechi Creative to be displayed in the 100th anniversary celebration of Shinano-Oiwake Station in summer of 2023.

Notes:

Nobechi Creative’s Bilingual Support Team will provide translation services.

The cost of the tuition includes a one-day rail pass and admission to Kaiko-En Garden.

It does not include a ¥500 express train reserved seat fee (please bring ¥500 with you on the day of the event)

No lunch will be provided - please snack or purchase your own lunch along the way.

Schedule:

8:00am: Meet at Karuizawa Hotel Otowa-no-mori

8:15~8:45am: Orientation

8:45am~9:15am: Transfer to Karuizawa Station

9:36~ Departure on the Karuizawa Resort Liner No. 1 (reserved seating)

10:48~ Arrive at Nagano Station

11:00~11:30~ Travel to Zenkoji Temple. 

11:30~12:30 Photograph at Zenkoji

12:30~13:00 Travel back to Nagano Station

13:05~ Board the local, non-reserved train bound for Komoro Station (or take 13:45 if not back in time)

14:12~ Arrive at Komoro Station (or 14:52 if later train)

14:20~16:00 Photograph at Kaiko-en Garden

16:20~16:36 Take the local, non-reserved train to Shinano-Oiwake Station

16:36~17:00 Photograph at Shinano-Oiwake Station

Depart from there as desired (train, bus, taxi, etc) (next train bound for Karuizawa is at 17:46)
